When Jennifer Edwards, owner of The Passdoor in Sebastopol, CA asked me to create some one-of-a-kind giant paper flowers for her gallery, I was beyond excited. As an artist, it is always wonderful to have your work displayed in a gallery setting, but this would be the first time my pieces would be displayed alongside other works of art. Jennifer curates her spaces very meticulously and the beauty of each piece is able to shine.
The flowers are displayed throughout the gallery in designer Piet Hein vases. What an amazing container to fill!
The Black Lily was created from heavy weight florist crepe paper and jet black card stock. The petals are cut and reinforced with wire before they are shaped and attached to the stem. The center is created by layering long strips of black card stock around the center and curling with a tool. Much like you would curl ribbon for wrapping!
For the black and white Anemone, I hand painted each stamen before shaping and attaching it to the center. The petals here are reinforced with wire around the edges to give the petals an organic shape and keep them uplifted.
Starting today June 18, 2015 is the Barlow Street Fair! It's a super fun time walking around and visiting all the shops, booths and food vendors around. Top it off with a live band and we are ready to rock the night away.
